uhh, well...my point was you are gonna have to call a locksmith to fix it...but really a new $20 deadbolt will really be cheaper...

Take the lock off the door, bring it to your local locksmith.. Don't volunteer any info as to how it got that way, just say it stopped working.

Ignore that. leave the lock where it is and tell im what happened do he knows to replace it not just try and fix it. there could be master pins out of place or crushed springs.

You may have had a master pin fall all the way into the keyway, and it's still there. When you inserted the key it pushed it to the back and that is what is keeping the key from fully inserting into the lock.

As said above, it's time to either take it to a locksmith or buy a new lock, which may be the cheaper option. If you buy the lock at Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a lock with the same keyway as your current key, they'll generally rekey the new lock to your old key at no extra charge if you would like them to.

If it is master keyed then it is not likely a lock/door that you own. Most homeowners don't have a need for a master key system. I'm guessing that you live in an apartment or maybe a dorm or just a rent house.

If that's the case you need to contact your landlord or whoever oversees that property so they can have it properly rekeyed to the master as well as your key.

If it is indeed your own property then do as stated above and replace the lock or call as locksmith and ignore what I just said. :)
