Wafer locks
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

yes you can, you may go too hard and snap it inside the lock, may not be able to remove the tip, and have to drill the lock...i call that going wrong :D

I'd have to agree with the possibility, however, this could only happen if the person is careless or inexpirienced, or the pick has been worn down. I should know because mine broke when it was in my pocket.

i am quite rough with my tools, my picks that i use daily generally last about 6 - 12 months! I think thats quite good considering i know a locksmith - a great picker but his picks last him about a month! Anyway i like a diamond and a hook pick used in conjuction. Diamond to start off just quickly then changing to a hook for the rest of it. I used to prefer a diamond, but am starting to like them both as equals although i am noticing some problems with the diamond which are overcome buy the hook! Also a REACH tool by Peterson is a fantastic pick for those temperamental locks!

ok but can you help?

Postby YelseW » 6 Dec 2004 19:46

OK. I don't know what the 'master pin' is. All i know is that i can pick a cabinet lock with homemade lockpics and and allan key/torque wrench. Skold told me that there may be a 'master pin' in the lock that I am picking...thats why I need to know! PLEASE can someone tell me what it is and how do i pick/bypass it?

the MIT guide explains what master pins are except it calls them "spacers".

they are just extra pins that allow you to impliment a master key system so that more than one key can open the lock.

sorry for my lack of fore-thought. - I meant to add that master pins usually make locks easier to pick because there are Two possible places where you can set the pin stack at the shear line.

THANKS

Postby YelseW » 6 Dec 2004 20:13

Thank you very much :D ! but if it is easier to pick, then why can't I turn the lock passed 35 degrees. The lock always turns about 35 degrees counterclockwise but I can't move it to 90 degrees. By the way, it is a master lock combination padlock serial number with V55 and issued for highschool with the administrator key part at the back. I am currently picking the lock with this keyhole.
