Besides the fun.. Why would you get a pick over a bumpkey??

if your in the business it may be wise to carry bump keys for locks you know are going to be a pain, but even then your unlikely to use them very often

So what is the main reason that somebody would get a pick over a bumpkey (fun aside)? I've seen bumpkeys in action and they are VERY Very easy. I'm sure that lockpicks have something that make them the better choice over the two. Help please

Way back many years ago, "bumping" locks was called "rapping" locks. Now rapping is another thing... Essentially, some locks can be picked much easier than they can be bumped, and some locks can't be bumped at all. (warded locks, disc locks, abloy locks, schlage primus and some everest, etc.) As stated earlier, bumping is one tool in many to accomplish the desired result.

Another difference is that a set of picks can open almost anything, but bumping requires a different key for each keyway, and a striking tool. It's picks hands down.

BUMPING IS HORRIBLE FOR THE PINS! I will work on pretty much any Kwickset, or a padlock with an m1 or2 keyway........ Picking is more fun and bumping is borring..... also you cannot bump high security locks the majority of the time.
