A follower that is used on master locks... its the same diameter of a master plug... it willl be a touch smaller than the schlage

No. A master follower has a portion of the follower removed so that the top pins can drop slightly and allow any master pins to fall down. You then rotate the follower back and forth and the master pins fall from the cylinder leaving just the top pins.

It has nothing to do with the keyway. I am not sure what you mean by "the two on the shaft". The bypass is done through one of the holes used for knob removal.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Ok, but how does that help in changing the TOP PINS to accommodate proper stack height total? You can remove all the master pins but the top pins are still there

Yes, I believe the "Shank" is what Schlage calls it in their re-key manual. I am surprised they don't cover what to do without a key? They know this happens every day.

Well if you're familiar with standard sizes and you're able to identify the series of lock that the cylinder is coming from, you're can tell what top pins you're looking at without physically removing them.

You can also make sure none of the stacks are jammed or binding. I also like to spray some lubricant into the cylinder during this time to ensure the top pins/inner shell are getting ample amounts of lubrication.

Just an excellent time saver.

So if the door set is off the door then you don't need to turn keyway 1/4 turn because you can access the slots on the shank? I didn't think this F series was "high security locks" It's just a regular house doorset.
