It's the way they handle these boxes. I got some locks from comrade... nowhere near a DOM D in value but they had some good old American 5200s inside. He sent a total of 5 locks and when I got the box it was opened in my mailbox with only one lock inside. Looked like someone was throwing it at a wall or something.
Locks are just chunks of metal so they turn into projectiles inside of a box. The shipper (seller) was at fault. I shipped a S&G 951 and I made sure it was secured by enough packaging material and lots of tape!!! I would defiantly make a claim but that won't bring back the lock.

BSG it is soo true, I used to ship at a place where the guy would shake Your box, if he could hear anything moving inside he'd start yelling at You. "This box will be dropped a minimum of 4 feet off the back of a truck, Do You Think This Will Survive?" The guy was actually doing folks a favor but it didn't feel that way at the time

And it was received in excellent condition. It is keyed and working now. When I ship, especially if there is any weight (or if I am shipping internationally), I tape the heck out of the package - every surface, every corner, every seam is sealed with strong tape. Gordon
Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

Speaking of tape, has anyone ever used the tape that's clear, but has a mesh like thing inside it? This seems to be the strongest I've found, but I don't know where to get it. I'm not talking about drywall tape.

TESA 4665 might be the product you are looking for.

That TESA tape looks nice! Here in the US, Staples sells 3M reinforced strapping tape that has the strings in it. I got some at my local store the other week to seal the ends of a tube mailer. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotch-Strappi ... +dispenserHere's some other heavy duty tapes they sell: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/e ... 1410&rt=r3We should have a thread on proper lock packaging and shipping techniques for those of us who sell locks online or trade locks with other members. proper packing materials, proper containers, and proper tape are essential when shipping any item. having worked at the Minneapolis post office for 30 years i saw more than my share of badly prepared packages . some actually should never have been accepted by the window clerk in the first place.

Yes, I think that's it. When I've dealt with it, it's also impossible to tear unlike most other tapes.

Well, its been two days since I told him I would like a refund. He has now stopped answering my messages. So I guess we are gonna have to do it the hard way. Good news for someone though, I pestered the post office people into searching their facility and thry found someone elses missing rachet. It had "fallen" out of their package the same way my lock had. -Nick-

What exactly does the hard way mean? Bad feedback?

Thursday through Sunday has been a "long weekend" for many people in Germany, this might be an explanation, too: the seller might be away on vacation. About items swapped in transit: A friend tried to buy a ABLOY PL362 padlock from the U.K. once - and received a USB stick, because that's what the mail people thought might have fallen out of that package. The guy who ordered the USB stick was probably surprised as well...

Kwoswalt99, I meant having ebay step in and make a decision. I hate having to involve them, but thats how it goes sometimes.

I just got notified that a package being sent to me from Germany had been "returned to sender due to damaged packaging". No word yet on if I have lost anything but I strongly suspect that I have; and let's just say the package had some rather valuable locks in it What ever happened to German efficiency. It feels like their packages are all being pilfered by the post office employees if you ask me.... Nervous wait time!!!
