Just for you Jimu57.. Successfully opened this old cheap padlock (that's too small for my picks) with a paperclip with no bother at all. Did it a few times, and now it won't even unlock with its key - so might have knackered it lol

I have a very similar lock although much older. I have been jacking with it for a minute and was cruising here looking to identify it. I want to make my own tool to defeat these lock (waiting for some scientific feeler gage), what are some of the improvised methods you could recommend to beat it now? With the key in it seems clunky so I doubt a paper clip would get it, but I am absolutely willing to give it a go. The bobbie pin method I found on youtube after reading this just didn't have the strength to get it, or maybe I am doing something wrong.

I posts like these all the time, and I just marvel at people who refuse to believe a lock can be put out of commission by picking, thus, the "don't pick locks in use" mantra.
But, back to the topic at hand. Thanks for posting a pic Ogri, it can sometimes help diagnose problems. Or at least make the post less frustrating and more interesting, so people are more likely to help.
First thing I'd suggest lightly lubing the lock, then gently wiggling the key and see if it'll free up whatever part inside isn't doing what it's supposed to.
