Yes you can. The hook is not that good of a rake, but the diamond works on occasion as a pretty good rake. It really depends.
I rarely use my double ball, and I have used my ball, as it does work extraordinarily well when your picking for luck. That is if you use it similar to a hook, sometimes you will get lucky, and it will set multiple pins at once. I use it on locks that have VR2 key blanks. What picks you use really depends on your style, and preference.
I recommend the twist flex tension wrench. It transfers feel better, and you don't end up with any weird calluses on your thumb that way.
