Touché I can't see a way of getting through my front door with the 'snib' latched (I have no letterbox....) without drilling....

Yes you can go under the door, through the door viewer, and one or two other tricks but he said

so i want to know how he gains entry on a well fitted door with no letterbox or view finder but with a broken lock, no other door (its a industrial estate unit for example)

if there's no view finder you can always drill a hole to fit one, and don't forget to think of other ways in, the last one of these i had was a top floor flat, so into the main loft, remove a partition, climb into the flat's loft, and drop through the hatch into the hall. a fairly common burgler's trick in scotland, most hatches are padlocked to stop this.
