Depends on how gentle/brutal you are with them. You can usually get at least a few uses out of each, depending on what material you use.

Yes, you can expect to get 4-7 uses per shim. (not a homemade ones)
For homemade shims you can expect 2-3 uses. They can be made out of things like: the metal on a floppy disk, the insides of a VHS tape, feeler gagues, etc.

My coke can shims generally die in one use, I regard them as disposable. I do keep about 3 of them premade in my kit though, just in case. They'll open a Master combo without much difficulty.

use the search at the top till you find a thread detailing the method to make these, then follow those instructions.

Typically, padlock shims just retract the latching mechanism that holds the shackle in place. The ones I have are made of tough spring steel and I hope will last me for a long time.

I tried the coke can shim idea, I had to use a shim on each side but unfortunately they kept shredding when I tried to move them around.

I've opened many locks with the metal strip at the top of floppy discs, maybe that'll work better than the coke can shim for you (and will cut your fingers less ).

quicklocks wrote::D hi that lock you got there has spool pins in and i have one its a pig but can be done so keep at it do a search for spool pins for info on them
I have one of those locks in my collection and it has been
driving me nuts, haha.
I thought that it was just a cheapy that they wouldn't even
bother putting spool pins in.
Is it a cheapo lock? Or do even some two buck locks have spools?
I've never seen another lock this brand.

Yeah it is a cheapo lock but its made in China, maybe the raw materials are cheaper over there so it could be produced and sold for less cash, who knows?

They save money by putting spool pins in because of the 1mm of brass that isn't being used....

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

I have a tri-circle padlock it's number is 265 and i manage to pick it in 8sec.(that's my record now) with a light tension and hook pick (diamond pick works nice too) anyhow i used method pin by pin.
if that helps.

Pick it don't bash it.

I tired the pin by pin method on it but the plug never seemed to want to budge no matter which pin I manipulated.

What model is that padlock? (it should be ingraved on the other side of circles sign).

Too much tension or maybe too less tension? Also i'm picking from top to bottom (maybe you should try that or maybe i'm wrong?) because every time when i try to pick from bottom to top i always have one pin unset (some middle pin) so it takes more time to open but i always manage to set that one too so it opens.
And one more question:When you say plug don't want to budge do you mean that it doesn't turn at all or it turns but not entirely?

Pick it don't bash it.
