Is it possible that this is some sort of 8-10 lever double action thrower?

insert key, turn once and bittings on side (a) allowing you to retract the bolt half way. Continue turning and bittings on side (b) then allow you to retract the bolt again to withdraw it the remainder? or possibly even 2 bolts acting independently of each other?

I agree, internal photos would satisfy all of our curiousity lol

Hey, perhaps we should have something like this as a quiz once a month.

I would say exactly like this...Cheap lock with mirrored cuts on the key as to allow it to be used on each side of the door........
