That is indeed true. Besides, approaching your parents with intelligence and FACTS goes a lot further than trying to sneak behind their backs. I know db already offered to exchange emails, and I offer that as well. You may also want to direct their attention to the locksport international website and have a look at the "formal" groups that enjoy locksports as a real social activity.

I know whenever our group meets we have a lot of fun and it generally includes having a barbeque and a few friends. And of course, we always learn something as well.

This thread has totally made me appreciate how cool LP 101 really is. It is a pleasure to see quality folks like DB, Illusion, Shrub, and so many others giving their knowlege, and with it their sense of doing the right thing, to any of us with a little curiosity and persistence.

A hobby like lock picking can influence a person's whole life. It seems to me that it does not really matter what sparks a person's curiosity. All that really matters is that the spark comes.

Plus, I totally appreciate the feeling of community in these pages and feel privileged to be part of it.

For these reasons this newbie is going to pony up the $20 bucks to support LP 101. Anyone with me? Let's give the site a shot in the arm. Twenty bucks, c'mon. I, for one, would like to see a lot more posts with the supporter icon.

Was forgetting father syndrome here, my father will regularly tell me how to do something I have a lot of experience with which he has never done (for example using a PC). Dads find it hard to recognise that there child is/has turned into an adult.

Accepting that an opinion other there’s is right can be hard for them. It seems to be worse with ex military types. From what pinsetter says it doesn’t sound like it improves with time.

A good solution may be trying to get your dad into it as well, that way you can let him fork out for a lot of the gear (that’s what there for) you can gain a common interest with your dad also.
