Just a thought here; Could it be the tailcap restricting the tailpiece? Maybe you need to take the cylinder out and turn the tailpiece 90 degrees the opposite direction so it can make a full rotation clockwise. Hopefully this makes sense...

Wow!

Three pages in and no one has addressed the whole "first time posting" and "picking a lock in use" issue? To say nothing of the "close-up pic of a lock with no context" situation.

I guess I have been out of the loop for a while.

Haha, well the fact that he's showing us close-ups of two different locks that are clearly installed in the exact same hole (look at the paint runs and rust spots) proves that he's not likely doing any shady business since he can remove and replace the lock. That's the way I looked at it, anyway...

That's exactly what I looked at when I decided to let this one pass "unnoticed" under the radar.

Cheers :)

We can try but I'm tired of every time I tell a new member not to pick a lock they rely upon they either get defensive and say something like "wow, cant believe you are accusing me of something illegal" or you get the ones that proclaim "don't tell me what to do, it's my lock" even if it is their landlords door and lock and they shouldn't be dicking around with it.

rcc147: why are you trying to pick your front door? As you found out for yourself, it's easy enough to break a lock and have to replace it, but now you're again trying to pick this new cylinder. Why not buy a lock and sit on your couch and try to pick it for fun while it is not mounted in a door. Are you learning picking as a hobby or are you testing how hard it is to pick your front door?

How about a picture of the hole with no lock installed in it. Or the latch mechanism.

Perhaps the problem here is not with the locks themselves, seeing as how they both have the problem. Unless that issue has already been covered in this thread and I already forgot what I read earlier today.

Think you may be right, sometimes things assumed are overlooked.

YES, you're doing something wrong: picking a lock in use. You know you shouldn't, even if it's yours.
Anyway, have you tried picking it with the door open? And what happens when you use the key? Does it stop or become harder to turn at the same angle?

Cheers :)
