He might have a few on him, if he does, he should be able to do everything mobile as you would expect out of a shop.

I have a couple of his books, I can't remember the exact content of either one of them, but they do have great info. Some people learn alot by reading, others learn more by hands on. You may learn some stuff, but you can't really learn until your hands do the work. I would buy it if I was you and had the extra money. Nothing hurts to read in this sport, some are better than others of course, but whatever gives you information is always good. Later on when you learn more you may get more out of it than you do now, so hang on to it, don't trade or sell, I have made them mistakes already.

I have many of steven hamptons books, I find them quite informative. Im not sure how much you will learn on picking itself but his books on high security locks are great. he is able to break things down to an understandable level as long as you can visualize you will learn quite a bit.

picking is all theory for me, if you can understand how the lock is supposed to work you can open it without the key. many people say picking is manipulation... i consider it simulation. I simulate the key. it helps me visualize whats in the lock. his books break down how stuff works, I enjoyed them.

Sig looks good to me. And the Steven Hampton book Secrets of Lockpicking is only like 25 pages of entry level info. I'd pass and just stick around here. You'll pick up way more info than that book contain.

Release tension a hare and push harder... you can feel them if your tensor wants to push back the opposite direction... if that makes sence...

Actually what I believe is happening to you, if I read your question right is this: Your one pin remaining must have a spool pin, as you said, when you try to lift it your tension shouldn't really increase or decrease but you should feel the tension wrench push against your finger and then as the spool moves up the tension wrench should ease off of your finger somewhat as you take up the slack with it, then the lock opens, you may think your not giving it tension but as long as you hold the tension your pins should stay set and give you the opening turn of the lock.
