Size 12

Isn't the most common burglary tool still the size 12 boot? the thundering hooves method used to be the most common if I remember right, then there are all sorts of carpentry and other tools, especially the cutoff wheels that will go right through lock shackles, bolts etc. These things are preferred by criminals because there is no doubt that the job will go quick and sure, and they don't have to have any skill.
But if you think there is money in crime, I would suggest politics or televangelism. Thats were the money is big and the risk is low.

If you watch "to catch a thief" the guy smashes in and clears out by the time you could count on having the lock picked. Locks and keys are for polite people.

Quite simple no i don't carry them but i wish i could. There have been several occasions where they would have come in handy (in a perfectly legal manner).

Carrying picks in the UK is a very risky thing, if you are caught it's calssed as "going equipped" and will easily lead to arrest and criminal prosecution. So no, sadly i don't carry mine around with me.

Oh i should mention that a friend of mine is a police officer and knows my hobby, after a conversation he said that whilst he understood certain people have this hobby he would still arrest me on conspiracy to deprive of property or some such charge. I respect his view.

However he also said hat if i had them on me to say, visit a friend, he would allow me to lead me to my friends, or call them on my mobile phone and confirm my story. If it was confirmed he'd be ok with letting me go.

Why would you possible need to take lockpicks to school? You are just asking for trouble.

not directly at school its summer an i use the fields run around in and stuff, but theres a group of kids who say "look at the little kid with the fanny pack"
the reason i bring lockpicks is that one of my friends meets me there and brings a lock or two for me to pick(he is amazed)
its all perfictaly legal i spen an hour digging through lawbooks

Fanny pack? I'm not trying to redicule, but maybe be on the lookout for a more compact case. If you choose to keep it, call it a belt bag, that's... better?

Clearly you don't understand that fanny packs are simply "what's happening".

carry whatever i can when i can. it is pointless to have them if you can't use them when you need them. since you dont know when you'll need them i just carry them
