Postby Fah_Cue » 29 Oct 2005 7:11

Hey tomorrow iam gonna go buy a bench grinder($30) and maby a dremel but i think they are a bit expencive . With the bench grinder I was wondering how many picks you can make off one grinder wheel and i gess theres different types of wheels, which type do you find the best.
Thanks,

I think from one wheel on a bench grinder you could get about 1000.

On the fine wheel maybe 500.

Remember to get a redressing tool.

Lol.. ok .. umm it is a tool that will redress the grinder wheel to its original form(sorta). It is quite cheap.

125mm grinding wheel will make a freakin' lot of picks. As for the rotary tool, you should be able to pick up an Ozito rotary tool for a lot cheaper than a Dremel.

On your way back from that, stop in at Crazy Clarks and get a rotary tool attachment set (I think it's either 50 or 125 piece set) for like $15.00. Enough cutting wheels and grinding discs to give you ten 20 piece homemade sets. :D

Crazy Clarks also has a mini hacksaw with four extra blades for $2.00 :D

Oh, and then go over to the make-up section of Crazy Clarks and pick up a couple of make-up brush cases for $2.00 each. :D

Dont forget some goggles!!!

A dresing tool is a good thing to have but if you use the grinder properly you wont need it that much and can buy it another day if short on the readies,

Make sure the tool rest is as close to the wheel as possable and that the guards are fitted and used correctly,

If you dont have a bucket handy buy one of those also so you can have it next to the grinder full of clean cold water to quench your work regulary, if grinding in a garage DO NOT grind next to the car, you will end up with lots and lots of pin head sized rust spots ove the whole thing.

Have fun.

..If not, go to Bunnings Hardware store.
They got those same knockoff brand dremel attatchments
and they even come with a USEABLE storage caddy.

Mine were $20AU and yeah, about a hundred pieces or something,
most of which are the discs etc that you need.

...or you can buy 'Dremel' brand discs only, for $30AU for probably ten or twenty discs.

The cheapo version has way more than that and are no different.
