getting key cut codes from a mircometer

i was told a while ago that you can get the codes for keys by measuring the pins with a micrometer. i was wondering if anyone has found a conversion chart on the internet because i havent been able to.

Ive not gone loking for the link but on this site you will find a link to a site that tells of pin and depth spacing sizes, you can not directally convert anything other than a size you can measure is the size of a cut in a lock.

Have a look around the links etc and you should find it, if you struggle come back and ill go find it for ya but make sure you look first  no cheating.
