Tension wrenches.

Postby devnill » 12 Dec 2005 23:59

I just bought 2 new locks: A solid brass Yale padlock, and a Sargent Mortise cylendar. I can't open either of them yet (although I am getting close with the Yale)

Anyways, The bbiggest problem i am facing is that i have a very small collection of picks, and only one tension wrench. This wrench is a bit big for both of the locks (I cant even get it in the sargent with another pick unless its coming from the back) I did some searches online to get a good tension tool, but i cant tell the actual sive of the wrench.

Does anyone know a specific wrench model that is small enough to leave ample room in the keyway for picking?

I'm kinda throwing stuff out there, but you could get a smaller one from southord. That should fit. I got 3 wrenches. 1 bigger one that is stronger, a middle sized one with a twist for comfort, and a really tiny one for small stuff like small padlocks. I guess if those are still too big, you might try slimline?

Some wiper blade inserts are quite narrow. You might try and scrounge up some of those. Or, you could junior hacksaw blades and grind them down to whatever width you're after. Only downside to that is that you have to heat to put the bend in with the hacksaw juniors.
