Maxis - any ideas?

Postby greyman » 19 Dec 2005 12:43

Has anyone heard of the Maxis 5-pin lock? It has a perfectly round keyway in which the pins are clearly visible. The key is formed by sandwiching a cut blade in between two half-round sides.

Can someone who knows tell me what country this lock was originally made in and when?

I can email a picture if anyone is interested (sorry, I don't know how to include the picture in this email :( )

Thanks in advance

I have a few examples of maxis locks in my collection. One is a cylinder for schlage type locks while the others are maxis brand padlocks. I am not positive where they are made though.

Do your Maxis locks/keys have any markings on them apart from the brand name "Maxis"? My gut feeling is that they are Asian, possibly Japanese but I can't back this up. Any chance they are American?

I have also heard that they are Asian made. They do seem to be a well made lock though. My keys are only marked with the Maxis logo.

Yes, I have a reliable source that they are asian made. On the Clearstar Networks (it's also listed in gpla.org) , under manufacturers, here is the address of Maxis:
Maxis Security Locks/Taiwan
#103-950 Powell St
Vancouver, BC V6A IH9
TAIWAN
(604) 255-2005
Here is their address in china:
HeXi New District Suzhou Jiangsu China 215000
China
Phone Number: 86 512 8250791
Fax Number: 86 512 8250224

Now I just have to find one of these locks (maybe a cutaway, then I'll finally be outdoing Zeke  ) and my collection will be the 1337 pwnzors.

Last time I checked, a company can make it's products in a different country that it is based.
