Plug Spinners

Postby Badmonkey005 » 26 Dec 2005 21:34

I was wondering if anyone knew how well either of these plug spinners work:

http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-A5-PGS.html

http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-Plug-Spinner-SOP1.html

http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-D10-PGS.html

The third one is expensive, and I would rather not pay that much for a plug spinner. The first one looks flimsy, I am more than happy to spend the extra $$$ for the second one, which looks nice and small anyway. QUestion is, is it reliable?

Thanks.

Go up to the Search function and type in the Keyword "plug spinner" then in the Author field type "tshock" then read his post on how to make your own plug spinner out of a mousetrap spring. I works as good as the factory ones and costs less than 2 dollars to make.
The way to be safe is to never be secure.

I am by no means doubting the fact that it will work. However I am more than willing to spend more cash if it means simplicity.

If I remember most reports, the A2 is okay but not that reliable, I haven't really heard anything about the second one, and the Dino is the Cadillac of plug spinners, good for anything you'll want to do (though a little bigger than most of them) but pricey.

I have a Rytan, works good and a good price... HPC has another good one.

Dino is the Cadillac of plug spinners, very true and if you are going car locks on some models its a must have tool, I have to one myself.

1st link stay away from, the second link may be ok and looks the same pricible as the rytan which i also have and is a great tool, the 3rd ling is good and useful for cars.

Look into the rytan, mine only cost somthing like £15ish

http://www.rytan.com/cgi-bin/detail.php ... UG+SPINNER

is the rytan you are talking about the top one?

the rytan looks good, the dino is just too expensive at the moment and I am not doing any automotive stuff yet. So it's down to the second link and the rytan. I really wish someone here had expierence with the second one.

That's the one. I have the larger one, which is probably longer-lasting, but both apparently work fine.

Mine is actually not a rytan but the same design, you should be fine with the second link if you want to go down that route, it looks well made and seems to work on the same princible.

go for simplicity... I have had the first 2, and mind you, I am an absent-minded full time locksmith, But i had problems with the second one...there is JB weld type of stuff used in its construction, and I had to re-fix it several times (2) before I lost it. But I have not had a problem with the A-5 of A-1's version...prolly both made by dino, and they fit the nicest of any in your pickset...rytan is cheaper, But I have had great luck with the cheapest that you listed.

The peterson spinner is the best I have used from HPC to the rytan. It is powerful enough to spin even auto locks if you need to.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

I have the second one in your list, and I also have an HPC Flip-It. I haven't had any complaints for either of them. I plan on picking up one of the Dino plug spinners because I do a fair amount of automotive, and considering the cost of the HPC, I should have just bought a Dino. Problem was they weren't available at the time.

At any rate, I would say go with either the second of the third one. I always believe that if you spend a little more up front you get a tool that will last you a long time and work hassle free.

The extra cost is more than worth it in that regard.

Take care,
