I would like to know the opinion about Professional Bumping, as I am just about to start a semiprofessional career as a 24/7 Locksmith.
I would like know if it is OK to "bumpkey open" a lock when you called out to a house and the owner has lost his key.
Seen from the Locksmiths point of view, it is nice and easy, but on the other hand that could start "Bad Vibrations", but I really don't that why I am asking.
I have another question, should I post a new topic..........naa
My fear is that I will be called out to criminal one day, and he's gonna force me to open, you know, just writing it makes it sound stupid, but could there be anything about it, did it happen to any of you?
Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

Not heard of a lockie being kidnapped to open a lock but you never know,
Bumping on a job is all part of the game in getting entry but i tried it once and felt a fol and didnt get the lock open either, after 4-5 strikes i threw it in the box and opened the lock properly.
The bumping of a high security lock may be your only choice of entry though if you dont know or cant get through any other way, drill excluded of course.

If you get forced to open up a lock, just jab the would-be crim in the nuts while you're in the ninja lockpicking crouch with a nice sharp instrument.
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

Only time I could see it being REALLY useful is if you needed to take out a Multlock AND you had a Multlock bumpkey (still trying to get one of those ).

The objection is that it may seem unprofessional. However, I think that a lot of this comes from the stigma surrounding bumping being introduced into the general public knowledge by folks like Toool, and the resultant backlash from the locksmithing community.
Find what works for you. It can be a valuable tool; I certainly consider it as such.

Wrenchman is in brazil, so the hijacking thing could be very real, but like every such situation, trust your instincts as to whether a situation is really what the client is telling you, and put a lot of credence in anything that rings false to you. there are times when you have 3 seconds to decide about trusting or not trusting and if anything makes you uneasy, don't override that caution, I did know a locksmith who carried a 38 in his toolbox, I never questioned him about it, but even that would not be useful without enough warning to get it out in time. There is no real advise to offer since each situation is presented differently, you play the hand youre dealt, and if your lucky, its your own native skill that will get you through, your inventiveness about how to deal with situations, and the ability to do the unexpected at the opportune time.

Thank you for (some ) good answers, keep talking, I'm right here!
Yes I live in Brazil, in the most dangerous, dirty, poorest area, in the city, in that state I live in. I concider, not to put a 24/7 phonenumber outside my frontdoor, but only an add in the newspaper, (these gang boys don't read the news, or can't)
I am too tired to correct any spell err..ok

Hi!
Even I can open many locks after a few strokes, but some locks do not open no matter how much I try!
So I would suggest to try bumping a few times before you go onto other methods. If it opens, it'll be an easy work. If not, you won't loose anything.
I think you shouldn't do anything dangerous if you are forced to open some lock, unless you are suspicious that they will hurt you anyway to prevent any traces! You are absolutely more precious than a few stolen goods.
Instead you can intently broke your lockpick inside the keyway to thwart the entry. If even that is dangerous, you can at least leave evidences by scratching the lock.
Regards

Then use your charm and jab her with a different instrument.

I wouldn't see a problem as long as your not breaking or damaging the lock. It opens it right?
