Lock Studies

Just out of curiosity, is there anything anyone does for study with locks? Anything standard? Ex// certain books, methods of lock device selection for practice, formal schooling, online schooling, apprenticeship, et cetera. Also, are there any areas of interest within lock systems that interest you more than others?

Well, there are plenty of locksmith training courses out there...

Mechanical engineering would probably be useful as a university degree.

I'm not so much asking the question for my own pursuits as I am out of curiosity for what everyone's personal approach is. Is there a particular way you go about it or went about learning? Maybe something you did to learn a particular aspect of lock systems.
