Has anyone used any clear locks?

Postby Pisces1303 » 30 Jan 2006 22:21

Hey there everyone! I was curious... Has anyone used any of the clear locks from: http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=412

I must be a very noob person because I can not find a good technique to pick some of the locks I have. I have a kwikset doorknob and a pretty old #3 masterlock (which still works with key). I am guessing that I can't pick these because I never saw my own hands working inside a lock before, thus preventing me from getting that certain feel and actually knowing what each item inside the lock feels like.

So I was wondering if I should get a level 1 lock, or just not buy them at all. If I do get a lock, would it make more sense to get a level 2 because its cheaper and I can master that and then the easier ones will be easy to open?

Thanks for your comments and thoughts!

Ya that is very helpful it will let you see what happens when you put the key is and when you try to pick it so and so. But i never used a clear lock i took DB guide to Repinning Yale cylinders. But if you want its your choice There both pretty useful. :D

Thats a good thought. Maybe I'll get level 1 and learn on that, then I can read more up on how to repin these kinds of locks. This could actually be a good plan....

Maybe I should buy a level 3 on this site thats going to be like 30 bucks. It's cheaper, but harder.... Hm. :?

I've never actually used a clear lock, but I'll offer advice anyway.

You should be able to go ahead and start on the #3. Only four pins, very forgiving. If you'd rather not, and you can take apart the Kwikset, you could try the start-with-one-pin-work-your-way-up course. Or just try it as-is. A five pin Kwikset was the first lock I ever picked and I got it in one sitting.

Once you get the hang of it and move on a bit you'll feel silly for worrying about these two locks. So if you're going to get a clear lock, get the hardest one you can so you don't have too many easy locks laying around. Start on the ones you have, then move up to the clear lock, where you can peek if you're having trouble.

It's just.... This has spool pins in it. I do understand what you are saying though. I'm just really worried that since I can't pick a padlock that I won't be able to pick a hard clear lock.

well its a master lock i dont know the pins of a masterlock but im guessing it has spols if it does use very very light tension. Thats really all i can do for now unless any1 else knows what a master lock has.

Ok. I'll just wait for more replies tomorrow. I'll keep this on my head.

1. Get a $50 level 1 lock and learn (hopefully it'll put me on my feet).

2. Get a $30 leve 3 with spools (which could turn me off to lock picking because I may get way too frustrated).

Thanks for your support.

get some cheap all brass masterlocks, very good to start with.

try a number 140.

it is the lock i started with.

IMHO dont bother with the clear locks, it will make you dependent upon seeing inside the lock to pick it.

If you get the spool one this is what to look out for.

False setting: This is when you push the top pin (spool) and it gets stuck between the plug and shearline, the bottom pin will fall down and you feel it no risistance ( not springy) but it feels no risistance cause the top pin isnt touching the bottom pin this is why it makes you think you've set the pin.

LIGHT TENSION :D So use light tension and you will be able to pick a spool but it will be hard since youve never came acoross them before. :D :D
