So I was at my friends house and he locked me out. I picked the deadbolt and lock in the handle in a split second. Don't be impressed they were only Kwikset locks. He was all wow and said do the one on the front door. It was a Schlage deadbolt, not sure what model or anything. So i put my tension wrench in and went to put my pick in but one of the wards was right under the pins and i couldn't fit my pick in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make your pick fit when you are really tight on space?

I'd try to make them smaller. Really, it works! Or just take one that fits in(e.g. a small half diamond)

Geesh!

Okay, so I got really excited at first because I thought Jason managed to make a post that not only was devoid of rubbish, but actually gave good relevant info!

Or do a combination of using a smaller pick, with the wrench in a different spot. Personally, I've had good success with a HPC hook pick that has been filed down a little bit. If that doesn't work for you, then bump it. 8)

What kind of picks are you using? SouthOrd, HPC, homebrew?
As it turns out, there is only 1 way to do things...right, and fast.

I have southord picks but the funny thing about the lock is that right under the pins there is a ward, as in all locks, but then after that there is a right angle andangle and i cant fit my pick in beside the ward and do lift the pins like i usually do. it is very frustrating so i guess i just have to try a different pick and or techniqe. thanks

Where the pins are in the plug should have holes in the keyway, slide your pick under these holes then lift instead of feeling for the pins.

The wards need to have a hole where the pin is supposed to go through. This is where you want put your pick in.

how big is te tension tool? i have several locks where my tensoners dont fit, so i had to make a few out of wiper blades. My favorite is a double sided one were one side is longer than the other, so one is good for putting in the top, and he other can be used on the bottom

Sounds like you need to use a dual pronged tension wrench.

There are plenty of diferent designs.
The top prong fits at the top of the keyway and the bottom prong fits in the bottom of the keyway, leaving plenty of room for your picks.

These is my homemade versions.

Ok cool. I have a dual pronged tension wrench now. Sorry I still dont get what you are talking about. the holes in the ward where the pin goes through.
I dont put my pick in any holes. I put it under a pin and lift it. there is a wierd angle to get to the pins though and it makes it hard. does someone have a picture of these holes or something because i think i got it but seriously this whole hole thing is wiggin me out.

Those are some sweet tension wrenches though. thanks for the pictures. those helped a lot in making my own.
