Door Shims

Postby c1187w » 1 Feb 2006 0:49

I was wondering if anyone had any idea for door shims.

I locked myself out of my room one time, so I took a hangar, slipped it under the door and pulled down on the handle to open the door. When used with a metrocard through the door jam, I can open the door in a few seconds.

I want to try and make a door shim that can open the lock without the use of the hangar. I've tried a credit card/metrocard by itself, but they aren't strong enough. The device needs to be able to bend at about 90 degrees. I was thinking of thin sheet metal. Any ideas?

P.S. I am asking this because I am curious if it is possible. The door locks are 7-pin BEST locks and it takes about 30 minutes to pick them.

.

use a coat hangar and a metrocard :)

if thats not good enough, go to home depot, and get some sheet metal that is thick enough to stay rigid. cut that to shape, and it will work fine. personally, i use a 4"x1" piece of aluminum that i notched.

To handle that I advise you to practice picking more often (time will decrease). You may like to check this page:

You may think of something from there. Just imagine what materials would be better. [/url]

One more thing, you can only open this locks when they are unlocked. You may also use an x-ray card.

An amusing note, I was practicing in the break room and my boss noticed what I was doing. She said when she was in college, she experimented a bit with shimming the door lock. According to her, the best cards aren't actually credit cards, but the fake credit cards you get with credit card applications (the thick cardboard or thin plastic ones). They're firm enough to push the latch, but bend far better plus you don't care if it breaks.

I have this object that resembles a white plastic butterknife..

My brother left it at home when he was temporarily living with mom (and using it to break in  ).
the "blade" is EXTREMELY flexible and has no identifying marks....

Just have no idea what it's called. and kinda wish it be kept that way

This only works on locks which use spring-loaded latches.

I'd actualy be inclined to say ths should be in the advanced forums.. it's simply bypass, and is little more than a tool for locksmiths or burglars.

But that's my 2p...
