HELP ME!!!!! i cant put the pins back in my lock

Postby kingusjordanus » 7 Feb 2006 1:05

i took apart a deadbolt i purchased from wally-world (wal-mart for those of you who didnt grow up in north dakota, minnesota, or wisconsin) to see how it works and stuff but now i want to put the pins back in to try and pick it with some stuff in my house before my tools get here in the mail tomarrow. but i cant get them back in. i can manage to get a spring in with some tweezers but i cant get it to stay there unless i hold it upside-down and then i cant get the top pin in the cylinder. so what im at is, spring goes in bottom pin goes in, top pin sticks out of the key part so it wont go into the part that turns. i might just be doing it totally wrong which i suspect. in case the type of lock matters i got the mountain "security" combo pack. the number says 3036-105. so thats my problem and some guides/instructions would be very helpful. plus pictures are always good. oh and its a 5-pin lock. and im sure the response will be helpful to many people. (either that or my lack of sleep is affecting my brain.)

thanks in advance guys :) and feel free to laugh at my nooberlty question.

A quick search for "repin AND cylinder" revealed two stickies in the FAQ section. This one:

and this:

Hope that helps. Please use the search button before posting!

Andy's 30 second guide! Hold hull so that driver pin holes are pointing down. Insert spring into stack 5. Insert driver pin onto spring, hold down with pick, insert plug follower. Continue with stacks 4,3,2 & 1. When all driver pins are in place (held by plug follower) drop key pins into plug, checking that, with the key in, they are all level with the outer circumference (sheer line). Insert plug into hull at angle (key pointing to 2 o'clock position) keep plug and plug follower tight together as you insert plug. When plug reaches full insertion insert retaining circlip to hold in place. Job done! :D
