Backing plate?

Postby AndyF » 12 Feb 2006 14:57

Can any of the UK chaps help out here? I am trying to make a couple of practice boards and I have some spare Yale rim cylinder replacements but they don't have these plates with them.

Can anyone a). tell me exactly what they are called? b). recommend a UK supplier? and c). recommend any other way to fix these cylinders to the board? Any help appreciated :)

If you have the bolts you can use anything you can drill a hole into including mechano bits.

If you drill the holes in your wood smaller you can tap your locks into them and do away with any fixings anyway just dont fit them on a door like that

Shrub that's fast

Unfortunately I don't have any Meccano (unless I go around a few car boot sales!), but I see what you mean. As far as the hole size goes I have a set of hole cutters but the next size down is way too small ( the locks would get squeezed so much I'd need to put my picks on a diet to get them in !!)

I was just hoping I could go out and buy these things to save myself having to fabricate a dozen or so brackets.

Don't get sending me your good stock! I will fabricate some rather than you do that. If you have some old ones in the workshop that would be great, if you haven't it's no problem. Thanks for the help :)

AndyF try a few washers at the other end, like the picture of the back of my lock board below.

Unfortunately I could only fit one washer to the back of this lock as the circlip would not turn after picking. If I had time I could have filed down the washers and bolts and fitted both.

Ju_

Thanks for the tip. I have found that there is a locksmith shop about 6 miles away, I'm going to see if he has any backing plates for sale. If not I can give the washers a try!
