I am new at lock picking, and I want to have the simplest tool to pick a lock in a quick way (possibly raking, seems to be the fastest and easiest way). But, I need a tool that is able to open almost any lock...what do u recomend?

What type of lock are you talking about?

Pin tumblers? wafer locks? lever locks? dimple locks? Multlock (pin in pin)? Combination locks (dial and/or numbered)? etc.....

A good sense of improvisation - everything becomes a tool to open locks if you think this way. Skill will allow you to open locks very fast, raking or not.

Please define where you live, and also the majority of locks you often encounter.

You don't have a tool that can open almost every lock. You may try a snake rake but it will only open a few, also there are a lot of diferent snake rakes. The most comon one is the one that comes in every set, even in the set of 7 tools. The best tool to open almost any lock is the finger pick, that opens almost any lock but you have to practice a lot, than again there are alot of different finger pick tools.
Hope I could help.

By the way, I was talking about pin tumbler locks and some wafer locks.

Is it for a hobby, or job related. If its job related, what kinds of locks will you have to tackle? where? and why? If you give some background information, we should be able to taylor an answer to suit your requirements.

My purpose is just fun...

About the type of locks, they are mostly pin tumbler locks and wafer locks, like the ones on doors, lockers and cases... (remembering that I don't know much about locks, but I think that those are the ones)

In any case, I could identify which ones are more common if I see an example picture of them...I don't know what are lever locks,
dimple locks and multilocks...

What I want is just not need to carry a pack of tools just in case some challenge appears

Illusion, a drill is a good one, but i do not intend to damage it, just open it...

Lever locks: http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=10743

Dimple lock:

Mul-T-Lock is basicaly the same as a dimple lock from the outside. Search the 'locks' section to find some photos, I'd photo mine, but my camera is hiding .

For simple pin tumblers just a set of picks - it'll do wafer locks as well.

My Southord pick case is about to fall apart with all the stuff I've crammed into it. :)

I took a look at the links illusion posted, and looks like lever locks are the older ones, and i rarely see one...

Dimple lock seems to be fairly common too....
I'll take some photos of locks and post here soon, just 4 you to confirm if I am right...

Please update your profile with your location.

Lever locks are not 'old' persay, but unless you live in the UK, it's unlikely you'll see any of the new ones.
