How can the tension wrenches have different weights - is it just a term to determine their thickness?

I don't think that the tension wrench weight has much to do with the actual size. (at least nothing I can figure out) If you do get one that is to thick/wide/etc. Just use a dremel to gety your desired size.

Yes, it's just referring to the thickness of the wrench. Once the actual weight becomes significant, the torque wrench is probably too big .
