Hi, I'm trying to get into picking locks as a hobby - I've been trying on and off for a while to pick my first lock to no avail - but I recently made my first pick in accordance to the video that is posted around. (Speaking of which, I thought the video was excellent, however as an aside does anyone have any recommendations for a good torque wrench aside from either the hacksaw blade as suggested in the video - I'd rather not use a torch - or the standard Allen Wrench - I don't seem to have one handy, and I don't think I'd have much luck grinding one down... Maybe, though. I've been using the nail-file end of some nail clippers, it's just small enough to get the head a bit in)
Anyhow, I bought a set of two locks from Wal-mart the other day and I took the cylinder out of one according to one of the tutorials on this site. Then I wanted to remove a pin or two from it so I could start out a bit easier, and I tried to follow illusion's tutorial, but alas, the plug wouldn't come out

. Then after a bit of horseplay I rendered the cylinder unusable, but that is another story

. Let's just say I was spinning it around with the key in, then out popped the bottom pins, then out popped the top pins, then the springs got all wound up in the thing.. Not pretty

. My question, before I tear into the other lock I have, if I choose to do so, is why can't I get the darn plug out? Am I even able to for this particular type of lock? Am I doing something wrong?
I figured it would be far better to ask rather than grind down my second lock only to break it/find that it won't work out. Until then, I'll just have to persist in my attempt to pick all four pins. I'm sure I'll get it very soon, I think I'm able to set two or three pins. It's a good feeling, until my poor excuse for a tension wrench slips and everything falls back
Thank you
