Repinning a Master lock(No 3)

Postby IceMouse » 19 Apr 2006 18:59

Hi, I'm trying to get into picking locks as a hobby - I've been trying on and off for a while to pick my first lock to no avail - but I recently made my first pick in accordance to the video that is posted around. (Speaking of which, I thought the video was excellent, however as an aside does anyone have any recommendations for a good torque wrench aside from either the hacksaw blade as suggested in the video - I'd rather not use a torch - or the standard Allen Wrench - I don't seem to have one handy, and I don't think I'd have much luck grinding one down... Maybe, though. I've been using the nail-file end of some nail clippers, it's just small enough to get the head a bit in)
Anyhow, I bought a set of two locks from Wal-mart the other day and I took the cylinder out of one according to one of the tutorials on this site. Then I wanted to remove a pin or two from it so I could start out a bit easier, and I tried to follow illusion's tutorial, but alas, the plug wouldn't come out :(. Then after a bit of horseplay I rendered the cylinder unusable, but that is another story :x. Let's just say I was spinning it around with the key in, then out popped the bottom pins, then out popped the top pins, then the springs got all wound up in the thing.. Not pretty :(. My question, before I tear into the other lock I have, if I choose to do so, is why can't I get the darn plug out? Am I even able to for this particular type of lock? Am I doing something wrong?
I figured it would be far better to ask rather than grind down my second lock only to break it/find that it won't work out. Until then, I'll just have to persist in my attempt to pick all four pins. I'm sure I'll get it very soon, I think I'm able to set two or three pins. It's a good feeling, until my poor excuse for a tension wrench slips and everything falls back :(

Thank you :D

Er.. Is there no edit on these forums? My apologies for posting immediately after my first thread, but I can't find the edit button. I just wanted to add that I also didn't quite understand Illusion's first step where he mentions removing some type of ring from around the plug. This is probably where I'm messing up..

Use a windsheild wiper blade insert, they have a metal strip in that is nice for useing as a tension wrench, try and find a jap car or such like as i believe in the us the Fords have the wrong type of a tick and wider insert which you dont want, if you get a blade that has 2 inserts in then youve got the right thing.

As for illusions guide he refers to a clip on te back of the plug that holds the plug in place, im not sure what lock you have so it may be configured diferantly but there will be somthing on the rear of it that holds the plug in place, insert the key and only turn it to the 2 oclock position or 10 oclock position, spinning it round isnt going to help especially if your pins drop into the bottom channel that has no bottom on it.

Due to abise of it the edit function was removed, you get it back if you read the entire forum, every single post, then you can have it back.

120406 total posts.. I'd say I'm down to about 120350 left! To be honest, I can't imagine how much harm an edit button can do, but as a newbie it's really not my place to comment on it..

I'll definitely be on the lookout for windsheild wiper inserts, I actually saw several references to them, but it just seemed like an odd item to chose that I didn't put much stock into the idea. But, having them recommended to me, I'll definitely look for some.

As far as the particular lock I have, I took a few, albeit poor, pictures of the cylinder(And one which includes the lock.. What's left of it)

And yes, I learned the hard way that spinning it around will be the cause of lost pins :(. Thank you for your help!
