I personally think there is no merit in paperclips and you are just messing around if you try it but i have been told to mind my own and a following is growing for such things.
Look at This thread for further information.

I tend to concur. Paperclips are a miserable way to learn to pick locks.
Can it be done? Yes.
Is it as easy as it could be? No.
Will you learn bad picking technique? Quite probably.
Is there a better way? Certainly.
You can make far better tools if you use better materials. Go to the PLEASE READ HERE FIRST thread at the top of any forum for a grand tour of the place. You'll get lots of good info.
Cheers!

It is not really all that hard (I decided to learn how to pick locks today, I did so with a couple of paper clips, and a good pair of pliers.) As far as picks go, I don't see anything wrong with paper clips, bent properly, they are not bad at all, and can be used as a pick or a rake.
Tension devices are quite harder though, I ended up bending the wire directly over it's self, and coming up with a decent...but not good tension wrench. In the next couple days I will build myself a good set of picks, and most certainly a tension wrench.
I used an old dead bolt to practice on, it had a crimp on pin cover, so I took it down to two pins to start, and worked up to all five, not really that hard, but it was also a cheap lock. Without to much trouble, I worked on the others around the house and managed to open all of them without much trouble. The biggest thing is the paperclip tension wrench doesn't put as much tension as would be really useful, a small screw driver would have worked much better if I had one handy.

Its exactally as DB said, when you make yourself better picks you'll notice the difference. With more specalised tools you should find yourself advancing much quicker than with paperclips.

Jason,
I picked my first lock with only 1 paperclip, so don't say it's impossible, you just never did it.

I learned to pick locks by picking my first with 2 paperclips. I soon realized the horrible limitations, the poor feedback, the inevitable bending and re-bending, etc...
I agree with the majority here:
Make some good tools! There are cheap and easy ways to make a decent if not excellent set of picks.

I Can Single Pin Pick And Rake some of My Locks with Paperclips, but u see many of the senior members here never suggested paperclips, because Lockpciking is a SKILL and its All About " Touch & Feel " so u will Spoil ur skill using Paperclips, You will Understand Automatically if you learn lockpicking with Good Tools and use Paperclips, or If u learnt by paperclips, and Move to Good Tools, U will Feel Like Heaven
Thanks

If you can pick open locks with paperclips then I would consider you more skilled than were you doing it with proper picks. I would howver say that it would be foolish to learn with them soince it will hinder your progression, and it's hard to learn even with proper picks.
What is up with capitalising random letters?

I will post a Video soon. well, with Capitalism, i m sorry if its annoying you, but its kind of my Habbit

You use capital letters for a proper noun, at the beginning of a sentence, and always when typing 'I' by its self. Example: "My name is Benjamin, I live in Kent"
I'm not annoyed, I was actualy just wondering if there was a reason why you were capitalising letters for some reason, it is no big deal really.
Well done on the Tricircle padlocks.

it has become common internet habit and even netiquette to type in lowercase-- mainly because it's faster for some people to type, and easier for most to read. however, being consistant about typing lowercase can also be hard, especially with proper nouns or multiple-sentence lines/paragraphs. punctuation has also gone the way of the dinosaurs

All these paperclip posts... Someone needs to jump in on them and suggest using saftey pins or bobby pins, if you absolutely can't wait to get a real set of picks or make you own. Paperclips are too bendy or too large, and saftey/bobby pins are just as easy to find.
As for the lazy typing - it's understandable for IM where speed is important, but really it's not appropriate for posts to public forums where you are composing the message at your leasure, and where the audience might include old crumedgeons such as myself .
