My First LP101 Video

Postby LockNewbie21 » 26 Apr 2006 17:08

Ok i am currently trying to get my video on here so i started this thread to have a place to put it. Anybody who knows the best way to get a video from a camcorder to here i would appreciate the help.

As to describe what i do in it. I go through all of the locks that i have talked about on here thus far, I show in detail how to pick them for mostly newbies and some more intermediate. The locks shown are Picked...
Master #3
Brinks R70 discus w/ spring loaded cylinder and spools
Abus Discus w/ sools
Brinks laminated padlock w/ spool pins
Cheepo Brass 5 Pin lock ( Pick Gun Demo)
Brinks 6 Pin shouded Padlock

I also show a great disc lock that i got from tractor supply thats a must see, and i go over making a perfect tension wrench for abus discus locks. So if any of these locks are giving oyu trouble bare with me till i can get the video up, and also it was my first one so its not the best but it is useful.

Also once the video is posted, it become property of myself and LP101, meaning noone else put it on other sites i will have it removed and find out who moved it.

Till its on just give a me a day or two to figur ethis out.

Another good place for video is http://putfile.com/. You can upload as many videos as you want as long as they are under 25MB.

Also, you could use a service such as youtube, or google video. They might be a little touchy about the subject matter, but its already 'public' so who knows! give it a shot!

as for getting them off the camcorder, TOTALLY the wrong forum :D

Inflation however, may have changed this.

Unless you have private hosting somwhere use photobucket, you remain the one who controls the video and it is also a bit harder fore joe public to rip it off without some knowledge.

Hosting on these other sites means they are usually deleted after 30 days and also they will soon be all over the internet copied everywhere they can be and maybe even sold on ebay discs.

It's not just software. If the camera's really analog, then you gotta have a capture card or some equivalent to convert the analog audio & video to some sort of digital form, and THEN you need a video editing package with a built-in CODEC (Coder/Decoder) to compress it down to the final format. WMV9 works pretty well for low rates of motion, and it compresses down farther than some of the 'better' CODECs that are intended for more action in the frame. I'm pretty sure it's a freebie from Microsoft (check their download site).

By far, the best guide to "what do I need, and how do I do it?" is at:
http://www.videohelp.com/

You'll want to check the sections on CAPTURE and CONVERT. There's a lot of helpful comments from *real* users there, not just advertising mumbo-jumbo.

The cheapest route for the software side is VirtualDUB, as it's free and it works. http://www.virtualdub.com/ The only rub is that VirtualDUB only works with VFW (Video For Windows) capture setups, which is ancient tech but is better suited for your older analog camcorder. Of all the capture cards and such, the Hauppage they recommend is the ONLY one I ever toyed with that kept the video in sync with the audio after 10 minutes of play... the rest all drifted eventually due to errors in sampling clocks.

VirtualDUB isn't a full-blown video edit package, but it'll handle converting your chunks of tape into computer videos.

Jumping into video isn't the easiest thing to do, but the info at VideoHelp is pretty good. I still refer back there frequently.

Maybe this will help

Its a pain to convert analog video to digital if you don't have the right equipment. Most digital cameras can shoot small video clips and save them as mpg files. You could pick up a cheap web cam and hook it up to a laptop. I have seen web cams as cheap as 15 dollars U.S.

your going to need a raphics card that is capable of accepting a video jack (the yellow cable on a scart lead) i dont uite know any model names but i know they exist. youll also have jacks available for left and right audio on some.

Failing that if u get a DVD recorder (hardware recorder not PC based recorder) you can wire your analogue camera into it and record direct to DVD and convert on your PC.

Thats all i can think of right now

For hosting i would say
www.youtube.com
and
www.video.google.com

since it costs nothing to post why not do both? Also get a copy of Adobe Premeir from someone you know who does lots of camcorder work or lots of work on the internet and that is one of the best for Video editing. I would say compress it to .avi or .mov youtube and video google don't care but if you choose Windows Media then us folks on Linux will be out of luck.
