I went to my local locksmith today to try to get various security pins to put in my quikset for practice. He said that he didn't have any.

Well before I left I asked him if he could cut a key to code for me. You can guess what the code was. Well I took it home and filed off about a millimeter off of the shoulder and tip. Then I put it in my lock and hit it for about a minute. I just couldn't get it to work. I used light tension before I hit it. Well the plug rotated the opposite way (security pins) with each strike. Should I try to time my tension for when the drivers are above the shear line or should I use less tension? By the way I am using a screwdriver handle for the keybump.
