Lock Pick set for the UK

Postby greengrass » 4 May 2006 13:26

Hi all

I'm a newbie here and have had a browse around which brings me to my question.

I was looking at getting the PXS-14 set and wondered if this would be ok for UK locks? The reason I ask is that I have read something about the UK and Europe needing slimmer picks than the US.

Any advise very appreciated.

TIA

GG

greengrass,

I started with the PXS-05L set and have had no problems with them on uk locks.

The PXS-14 set looks ideal to me and is a good starter set. If you get
into picking in a big way you can always make your own tools to compliment the set you have.

Good Luck

Get the 9 piece Southord set, and prefferably slimline.

I say the 9 piece set in particular, because it is only £6 more than the 5 piece set, and the next biggest set sells for £31. The 9 piece set sells for £17 exc VAT.

I say not to get more than 9 piece purely because I never had a need for more in all the time I've been picking. If you feel that a wide selection of picks will be of benefit then by all means try, I'm jst throwing some suggesytions out. What I found I lacked where tension wrenches, and I made some spares from winscreen wier inserts and street sweeper bristles. :)

Does this help?

Thanks for the replies,,

The PXS-14 set is here http://www.airpistol.co.uk/lockpick1.htm for £18.90 which appears to be a decent price, I can't see a 9 piece like u mentioned illusion .. have u got a link for one so that I can have a look at it.

Thanks

try majestic lockpick set, ltoo1a is a 13 piece set, ideal for beginers, They start at around 13 quid, and they are ideal for the tighter profiles

Unfortunately the Majestic picks are only available to lockies so it's of very little use to 'greengrass'.

Have a look on the devon locks website as illusion suggested get the biggest set you can afford, dont worry about the tension wrenches as they are easy to make afterwads but as a basis it would be good for you to have somthing like a dimound pick large and small, a hook pick large and small, a ball pick, a rake, a snake and a bent small half dimound, a double pronged wrench and some assorted normal wrenches. the first 4 picks are certain and the others if you can.

Another vote for Devonlocks here as I have just bought my first set of picks from them and they were spot on. Unlike another company I tried to order from and they bodged the order up and in the end cancelled it.
