This set any good?

Postby Gabskij » 14 May 2006 8:48

I am totally new to lockpicking I tried it once at a friends with padlocks and found that I had a knack for it. Now I am the kind of guy who never does anything half-assed. Thus I decided to get a set and give it an honest shot.

Since I don't half-ass I decided against common sense to get a bigger than small set to start with. Mostly I chose this since it doesn't have a leather case and I don't feel proficient enough to know what I want if I bought single picks.

My question is : Is the following a good set?
I would have asked here before buying, but I'm also quite impulsive. =)

I'm more referring to quality. I know I won't need many of the picks for a bit but I am a quick learner and have the money now. Don't know if I will later when I start needing it.

Thanks for the input. =)

Hmm... Get a smaller set of HPC or if you prefer big handles Peterson picks (get the Peterson 'just picks' pack - best deal for a starter IMO)

I would just say get a set of Southord picks since they are cheaper, and if you find out that picking gets boring you won't have wasted much money. I guess if you're sure, and your heart is set, then you may as well get a more expensive set. The Peterson handles are nice to grip, and I've heard good things about the plastic handled ones. :)

Hmm... Can't say I like the set you linked to, but haven't tried it so won't make any unfounded assumptions.

Cheers.

I'm feeling a bit foolish buying such a big set but it's too late now. I actually became a member after ordering and it's been shipped. Let's hope I dig it. =)
If I dare I might say how it was when I've tried it.

Thanks illusion for the feedback.

Ahh well, it looks like a good set of picks, and at least you know you have enough now. :)

If you could give some feedback about the picks I'd appreciate it. :)

Thanks.

That is a reflection on a shiney surface, the picks will all be the same, if you look at the bit of wallet that those are in and youll see it is at a differant angle than the rest.

Gabskij, be careful you dont put them down, youll never see them again with that cover on the case!

Ugg once again shrub beat me to it, even though camo.. it sure beats my boring Two Black SO cases, i might have actually opted for the spring steal when i first started. Ehh they'll do the trick, be like me wheni got my 32 piece use every one at lest a few times you never know what oyu favorite tool is, mines the small hhook and s rake for getting flase sets.

I would have opted for this one, has more picks jsut a few dollars more they look to have all metal handels, plus there color coated.

Byt he way anybody know who manufactures these, they have no name, are they SO knockoffs?

If I was going to jump into picking with both feet (the way you seem to be doing), I'd drop the $265 for a Falle Basic Picking Kit.

Ehh i have my ifs about falle picks..not there ability to pick but more there price, and there ability to be reproduced, all you need is the degree each hook is set at.. enoguh of that but ohh there tension wrenches are the sh*t!
