Thinking of putting spools in my Kwiksets

By now I know how vulnerable Kwiksets really are. I've been toying with the idea of putting spools in the ones in my home to beef them up. My questions are: How many and in where (meaning in which pin #(s)) should I put them to maximize security? Thanks in advance.

Are your locks at risk of being picked to gain entry, or is this 'just in case'?

Just in case, because I think most criminals would use brute force or a window anyway. However, I did get stirred out of my complacency very recently:

i would put spool pins in all the pins.. ive done it and its hard to pick.

Put at least one standard pin, all spools can mess up key alignment and cause wear. If you want to pin it tough pin it 0,7,0,7,0 (can't remember the Macs for kwikpicks but it is something like that.)

p.s. If you have any windows in your home unalarmed then leave your door unlocked, why replace all your goodies plus a broken window

Serrated pins still have notchs in them, so the lock could still be suffer excessive wear and tear, it would still allow the keyway to turn several degress with no key inserted.

Seriously, I never bash a lock. But putting spools in a Kwikset??? That is like putting a wax job on a turd isn't it?

Perhaps, but it is an inexpensive way (rather than buying a new lock) of improving the security (even if just a little) of my locks.

I dunno I swear these things make no difference to picking at all.

I have a kwikset titan 6 pin deadbolt, and just to see the difference it made to picking I placed 3 spool pins from a different lock in the Kwikset. It made it much harder to pick. It doesn't make the lock any stronger by any means, but it makes it a lot harder to pick for sure, and is good for practice.

Of course, the titan isn't a lock I'm using on anything. It's just a cylinder in my practice box. I have that and a whole bunch of different pins and springs and use it to set up different keyings to practice on.
