Ok, I've searched all over the fourm. I called the local authorities (who had no idea what they were talking about and refused to give a straight answer) and spoke to some law offices (who won't help me unless I shell out cash for a one-liner of "advice").
My question is this: lockpicking seems like a really fun hobby and something I'd enjoy. I tried it myself with my own tools, but even with simple training-type locks I can't get them to work. My guess is I'm not machining the parts correctly since getting inside the lock is *very* clumsy with my DIY tools (my torsion tool blocks my pick half the time, and my pick has a hard time sliding off pins).
I need a real kit to enjoy this hobby, I used the FAQ/buying guide to pick out one I liked from Lockpickshop.com and I'd like to make a purchase, but what about all this "only buy if you're authorized" stuff? I checked my local codes myself and there are NO laws regarding owning lockpicks. If you get caught with them actively attemping to break into something, it's a crime. Basically that's it -- the codes actually *allow* possession of the tools if you're not showing intent to use them maliciously.
The question:
Can I order and have shipped a nice set from lockpickusa or do I need to be a locksmith to do this? My local/state codes give a thumbs up to lockpick sets but lockpickusa.com website says I must be a locksmith, car dealer or repo man.
PS: I honestly tried my best to make sure I didn't break any forum rules in this post. If I touched upon a banned topic I apologize.
