hi guys! i have been lurking on these forums for a while, and have tried to pick a few locks but failed. yes, i know the theory behind it, but i just cant get it to work. would any of you please add me to msn and show me how to properly pick locks? i guess the fastest and best way to learn is to talk to someone with experience one on one. thanks! my msn: ibrokedarules@lp101.com

Your email will be removed by a mod, put it in your profile and tell us to click on you profile to get you email.

I don't think anyone will do that though, its more of a teach yourslef kinda thing here and we help along the way.. welcome though, just keep practicing and if thres a question feel free to ask. Theres guys in here who have forgotten more then i learned so far, but just practice, if you need help on a particular lock do a search, and if its no avail to you.. meaning its an individual problem PM me, or post a thread but always supply a picture of the lock along with key and problem, and this will give you the best possible odds for an answere, rember always post a pic of key and lock.

The other issue with teaching lockpicking is that there's only so much technique. Obviously read the MIT guide to lockpicking, which can be found conveniently using Google. You'll also want to read the tutorials found on this site.

Past that, picking locks is a matter of feeling, and nobody can teach you how to feel what's going on inside the lock. That's simply a matter of practice. Once the fundamental theory of lockpicking is understood, it's simply a matter of learning how to apply the right tension, feel inside for the pin with the most resistance, and push it up to the shear line.

Practice practice practice. :)

Recognizing what that feel means is the hardest part to learn, at least for me.

I bought a 5 pin cut-away with nothing but spools for driver pins and what I found was that I was recognizing false sets correctly but I was not recognizing when I was oversetting pins. This cut-away has a very short 5th pin and its difficult to set. I found I was oversetting some of the pins in the front while trying to set this pin. This showed me the value of rocking the pick or slightly backing off the tension wrench to allow these pins to drop to the shear line.
