New project im having trouble with

Postby unclekev » 29 May 2006 10:13

Hello everyone :)

Nice to be here and cant wait to become part of this community .

I hope this post is in the correct forum.

What i have been doing recently is going to auctions and buying things like cabinets, Drawers, Desks and stuff with keys for small ammounts of money to practice picking on, Iv been successfull with everything expet this one thing.

I just bought a very old safe for $30 and the owner said they havent had the key for over 20 years, so i thought "Great a new project" but for the life of me iv been sitting in my garage trying and trying for over 5 days now.

I have no idea how this lock works, Or no experiance with older "Skeloton" Type keys. Iv even tried making a replica of a standard key but it turns half way then just gets stuck and wont move any further

Here are some pics, Just click on the thumbnails

Shes beautifull, Isnt she :)

Heres a closer pic of the opening mechanism and the keyhole

Thanks

Safe entry is for advanced forums only im afraid but that said look for a guide written by illusion and stickied in the locks section for picking lever locks, read that and you should have a better idea.

Welcome buddy.. its so rrfreshing for someone asking for help with a safe to supply actually a nice picture a few here in your case :D :P . So welcome, safe opening is advanced material.. but this seems like open material becuase it not combo cracking. I would say its a lever? If so then you can look up lever picks and make your own. As i said welcome, and someone with more expience with these locks can help you more than me.. but thanks for giving photo's its nice for 30$, thinking of maybe giving it a little restoring and using it after you pick the lock? heck a safe for 30$ sounds like a deal to me :D good luck buddy hope you get it. Nedd anyhelp any something else PM me and post i will do my best.

Wow thanks so much dude, Thats a mountain of help :)

I know a locksmith that can make me up the key for it but i would rather 1st open it as a challange :)

Once its open im gonna strip all the paint and re-paint it and make it look amazing.

I will spend all night now doing some Lever Pick research tonight

Thanks so much
