Opening a "bumper -spain" bike lock

Postby benson » 4 Jun 2006 13:16

Hey guys i've never picked a lock before and i need some help. The tools that i've got are pliers, a hair clip, a dart and 5 different needle files from B&Q. I don't know if any of them are useful.

The lock i'm trying to pick is a black bike one, it says Bumper Spain on the lock part. I can see the first little pin thing inside it and i can press down on that. I've tried pressing down lots of the pins and then turning the lock by twisting it with one of the files but no luck.

Do you think that a bike lock is too hard for a beginner? If not can someone please give me some basic advise?

thanks

I think you would be well served calling a locksmith. Learning to pick locks takes a lot of time and practice, and is hardly worth the effort to pick one lock.

It's like learning gymnastics so you can reach that book on the top shelf.

Good luck,

Right... I reckon that in order to reach something high on the shelf I have to run up it, grab what I want, and then complete it with a backflip dismount when I reach the top.

Easy bruv.

lol i just want to take up picking locks is a little hobby, just for fun. The bike lock isn't actually attached to anything, i just think it would be cool to unlock it without a key.

Show us a picture of the lock with its key, also in its unlocked position and we can give you better advice.

Ohhhhhhhh... well that's different. I suppose there's no harm in working with what you've got, but I'd really recommend a lock you can take apart as your first lock. It will save you a lot of time.

We need a picture of your actual lock not a commercial picture of one.

i don't have digi cam with me :(

Am i right in saying that:

-you use the pick too press down all the pins.
- you use the tension tool to apply pressure to the lock in whichever way the lock is supposed to go
-you 'rake' back all the pins

and the lock should be open?

Nope. Sorry to say, that's altogether wrong. Have a read through the MIT Guide to lockpicking. 'Fraid there just aren't a lot of shortcuts to learning this.

You should buy a pad lock, if you can't supply a picture then your not getting any info, plus pad locks are comfy to hold, and why such a fascinationg with bike locks?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!

did it! used the rake method.

For the pick i used this metal tooth pick with a plastic andle and a funny looking bendy end metal bit.

For the tension wrench i used a little screwdriver which i bent in2 a L shape

SOOOOO happy! :D

First of many i hope
