Anyone have pictures on "proper" techniques to hol

Postby solidforce » 7 Jun 2006 17:31

I have done some searches, watched all the videos, read the guides, but I was wondering if someone has any pictures on "proper" pick holding techniques. I have found many text versions of what to do but I am very much a visual learner and need pics ;)

can someone direct me to pictures or post them up?

I am trying to learn to single pin pick and am having a hell of a time. Frustrating to say the least

thanks!

Here is how I hold my picks. I am not claiming it is the best, or even if it is a good idea, but it's how I do it.

Thanks.

I tend to hold my picks the same way I hold a pencil when writing. There isnt really any "proper" way to hold them, it's more personal preference than anything.

My grip is very close to a combination of the first two grips in Prads' post. I do use the pencil grip, but I rest the very tip of my middle finger on the face of the lock for stabilization and increased sensitivity.

Works for me anyway. Truth is, there is no "proper" way. It's whatever works best for you.

If you say to your self this is a hard lock or know its a hard lock you will lever pick it.

you got to think "i can pick this cause any lock is possible!"

Trust me sometimes its cuase your crap but sometimes its cause of the mind :!:

Keysman had alot of padlocks opened them all ages ago and when the lockie told him they where high secured he never opened them again so that just shows you what the mind can do! :D

Just remember that as long as you can hold the pick properly and gain the level of control that you want, you can pick however is comfortable. There was a point at which I was worried that my style of holding the pick would hold me back somehow, perhaps a decreased sensitivity to the pin setting process, but that hasn't happened...of course I"m not that great either, so maybe it just hasn't hit me yet! ;D

I kinda did it murder note style. I was flicking through some newspapers a while back, and found every letter I needed to spell 'illusion' so I cut them out, stuck them down to a piece of A4 paper, and just wrote 'LP101' in the top corner. I uploaded it to Photobucket months ago, before Aqua kindly made my sig for me. I just fancied a change, and I thought I'd change it for a week or so.

DB: Your grip sounds similar to mine. I can't pick a lock without resting my finger on the face of the lock for some reason. :?

holding picks

the finger on the plug and lock body is an important feed back where you can get it, of course, its not available on certain locks like the american with the drill resisters or the master with the outer lamination in the way, but you should be able to do the master without feedback. you can feel the plug move in relation to the cylinder body to know when you have set a pin.

Bleh Drill resist. ;p

I've tried the American and do find that I have a bit less "feeling" because I don't have my finger on the locking mechanism itself. *nods* The second major reason I've never gotten used to the pure "pencil grip' thing is that I feel like my hand's just kinda floating there, untethered...if at least part of my picking hand isn't touching the lock, I feel wild and out of control. =D
