Double Sided Lockpicks Help

Postby Kaotik » 12 Jun 2006 0:33

Good day to all. I am Practicing on a few double sided locks with conventional one sided lockpicks (somewhat difficult for me), is there anyone here that could possibly help me with some diagrams (actuall size perferably) of a set of double sided picks so i can make a set? I would buy a set which i have searched for but times are tough and all my work has died for the time being so i cannot afford them at this time. Any help would be very much appreciated and will not be forgotten. Thank You!

picking double side

Postby raimundo » 12 Jun 2006 9:35

many double side locks are wafer locks so no top pins, just wafers that are capable of sticking out of the plug on either side of it. if you have a split tensor you can work first one side then the other, or if you only have a single blade tensor, you put that in one side and work the other side once, then put in another tensor and remove the first one without letting off tension and work the side blocked by the first tensor. Often it is not necessary to 'set' the tumbler, just a diamond pick rakes one side, then the other, without removing tension. thus, you pull the wafers into the core, and if they stick out the other side, that gets adjusted when you work the other side. You can also make your own split tensor out of street sweeper bristle, just bend it in half, twist the tips to go into the lock and cut a pick tip on them. Usually best to have the tips not directly opposite, but staggered.

Yes, db your question and assumption is correct indeed, however the links posted in this thread brings up unclear pictures (kinda blurry), and i cannot see the detail very well, could either be due to visual settings or just bad photos in general...LoL, maybe if you happen to have the time to pull up the links you can see what i mean. Also, thanks raimundo for the very usefull info on the subject, it will help. In conclusion, if someone happens to have a set of these picks, a scanned JPEG should be more clear for me. Thank you very much again guys.
