tough lock

Postby moez54 » 13 Jun 2006 1:37

I came home today and when i put my key in the door, i found it rather rough. the key wouldnt slide in as gracefully as it usualy does and i had to twist and turn it until it went in all the way, and then i had a tough time turning it.
This problem just occured out of the blue and the lock has been fine for as long as i remembr, it is a rather old lock though. Does anyone suppose someone may have tried to force this lock? i sprayed it with some degreaser and now its okay.

It sounds to me like it's just needing a good dose of lube. My favorite is Silicone spray. Try to find either some Silicone or Teflon spray in aerosol. Don't use oils that will attract dust and dirt.

Hope this helps, and I seriously doubt that it was caused by mischief. Sounds like the lock simply got dry and started to hang up.

Could have been something as simple as a small chunk of dirt that got in the lock, and then wedged along side a pin. Your lube job may well have fixed up the problem.

Dont worry nobody was messing with your lock, i had to rip our stupid quickset apart and and use a arosal duster to get all the junk out nad then sprayed some lube.. good as new.

interns disease

Actually it sounds like he is just newly aware of lock manipulation and possibly did not fully insert the key. before this, he never thought about it and always got it right, but overthinking is causing the problem. I have found that people who never thought about lockpicking soon have a lock problem about a day to a week after they become aware, paranoids whom you have known for years will have a lock problem within 3 days after learning that you can pick a lock, and will come accusing. It psychological.
