Springs for Kaba Gemini???

Postby TheMikeMan » 16 Jun 2006 12:08

I recently bought a Kaba Gemini cylinder from somone on ebay. The springs and top pins sprung up from the bottom of the keyway (which is known to happen with these). I re-pinned the cylinder to the existing key, but have many mangled springs. My question is: Where can I get replacement springs for my Gemini? Would my local locksmith stock these? Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean they sprung up when you picked it? or in normal use?

You need a lockie whos a Kaba dealer, they should have a pinning kit.

they sprung up when i picked it. I misunderstood your advice about just jamming something in the keyway, tried that, then discovered that you just have to block the bottom of the keyway with something flat.

My local locksmith is not a kaba dealer, so what should I do?

Hope one on here sends you a few, i dont have a Kaba pinning kit im sorry or else i would just send you some.

Try re-winding the springs around a pencil lead or somthing, if they have one decent end you should put that on the pin and the screwed end in the chamber.

6/8 of the pins are fine, but the other 2/8 are fubarred. So I would only need 2 pins.

I took a lot of time last night trying to fix the cylinder. I basically cannibalized a tubular and modified the springs. It works now, but the key goes in and out pretty hard. I think it will be okay for picking, because I've picked it 2 or 3 times since the "repair." Again, thank you for all your help.

Actually, what should I try to pick next? The Kaba is easy for me (picked in 2 minutes right out of box). Any suggestions?

Well done then i guess your new springs are maybe a little too hard or long but if it works great,

Gemini easy? did it have pins in every hole? if so well done theres still people out there that cant do them at all.

If you like the dimple locks maybe try a DOM or Mul-T-Loc interactive for your next step.

If your after cylinders then i think at this point in time tonight somone else will be able to give you better advice than me depending where you live.

Perhaps the american version of the dom ix could be his next lock.
