i need help, please

i locked myself out of my bedroom earlier this evening. i didn't stress about it because i've never had an apartment where the bedroom door had anything more than one of those so-called locks with the push-button & all you needed is a coat hanger to push the "lock" open. i remembered about 2 hours ago that this lock is the type that is normally the secondary lock on a front door. the type that needs a key. i've read some stuff online & a lot on this website. i have a vague understanding of what i'm supposed to be doing when i pick the lock - but only vague-i'm most confused by figuring out how many pins there are & how much torque/tension to use - who am i kidding - i'm just confused.

could somebody please, please give me a walk through so i can try picking this lock again? again - it's the kind of lock that's the door knob & takes a key, and on the other side is a flat turn-screw. i don't know if there's a brand name - nothing on this side of the knob.

i have very few items to use as "tools" - i just moved in here & most of my unpacked belongings are in the locked bedroom. but, please feel free to suggest household items or whatever - there's a chance i could find it - i do have safety pins (large ones).

also, i came across this "raking" technique? again, i don't fully get it. could i do this? keep in mind that i do not care at this point if the lock is damaged or ruined - it looks cheap anyhow & i'm kind of upset at this point i was not given a key for my own bedroom.

hopefully i'm not purely stuck here - i really didn't want to bring my semi-senile manager into this because i have an early doctor's appointment tomorrow & i know he will not understand why it is important for me to get into my own bedroom as soon as possible.

thanks for any help - suggestions - walk-through steps - whatever, etc. hopefully this made sense, i'm recuperating from a head injury (thought i'd add that for a little extra sympathy/help).

Now is not the time to begin to learn the hobby of lockpicking .. call the apartment manager or a locksmith be inside in 1/2 hour.

Yeah, that's true.

However, I do have to say that safety pins, especially large ones, make much better picks than any other common household items people come up with, like paper clips, bobby pins and whatnot; the steel is a lot better.

There should be a crash course in raking for these kinds of people...
Though abuse would be too easy...

Ah nevermind,

Call a lockie and put your hand in your pocket im sorry to say, if you mess the lock up youve got to pay anyway an have a chance it will be more expensive.

You shouldnt pick locks you rely on especially if your just trying.
