how do i pick bottom serrated pins. i have been trying to get in this lock and i cant. i picked a best before it was my friends but it was just the core.
i looked in the key way with a cheap scope and lifted the pins one by one and all of them are serrated. its a 7 pin i no about the bottom but i dont need to mess with that if i'm just picking it right. well my main question is what am i feeling for the second click or something any help would be appreciated. thanks

Well im a bit worse for wear but basically you have to be careful and ffeeeel for the correct shear line, lift little by little until you feel the pin go.

You may be able to feel the diffeance between the correct setting and a false set, the fasle set will lock the pack up and the plug wont move a proper set and the plug should move a lot more, o picking the others you will find the plug moves a lot more again but if the first one is in false set it wont move, keep going until you feel all pins ae set correwectally.

Im sorry its not very helpful but it realy is feel and practice, maybe actually search for serated pins for moe info on picking them but you should get it, if not maybe its time to leave it for now and move on to a simler lock.

Spool pins react more or sless the same so maybre some reverse engineering to counter act the serated bottom pins.

Sorry for the poor post but i hope it helps in some way.

no that helped i felt the pins lock up. so when this happens i have to ease up on the tension to let it drop. is this correct.

Well i dont have a lot of experiance with serated pins ill be honest but yes that is what i think,

If the pins are locking up they are false set a correct set pin will drop and be able to be lifted a little until it hits the shearline, a long bottom pin will be harder to feel but a short one will be easy to feel.

Hope this helps.

when i started picking i would use light tension and rake the lock a few times and then check the pins or go get my pick gun. i want to do it pin by pin. i have a hard time with the search engine i' m not sure witch cadagory to look in. i get so much back and its not what i am looking for and i check my spelling with the yahoo search engine.

if the bottom are serrated does that mean the top pins are serrated or spools?

sorry about the double post but i'm picking it right now i here two diffrent clicks when lifting the pins. one is a dull light sounding click and the other is a bright loud click wich is the real one or is this just happening with this lock.

The search works well if you use 'and' in between words so somthing like picking and serated and pins may work.

The fact they are serated bottom pins doesnt mean anything on the top pins, there may be rules that can be adheared to on certain locks in that lock A always has spools in #'s 2, 3 and 4 but in general its not a rule of thumb to expect any particular pin above another particular pin in a non-descript lock.

Im sorry if im blabbering.

I simply find it amazing god has been removed form tyhe language filter, thats great lol

No problem, i and a few other come across as being funny at times but were not, we can be very abrupt when time is short and also if tempers are frayed but all the big posters are here to stay and theres also a lot of new members with a vast knowledge to tap into, we all learn from this site including me, i know most of what i know about cylinders because ive read the entire site and i mean the entire site, i tend to deal with mortice locks so this site helps me or has helped me a lot in the past, were all learning daily and if i can pass it on same as you will pass it on to newer people then the site is a happier place,

Now auto questions are another thing for me   its my pet hate for the public forums lol
