Actual Size?

Postby CanDo » 1 Jul 2006 1:33

Alright so I am (obviously) very new to this world. I've been fooling around for about half of an hour with a bent pin on a five pin deatbolt with no success. I find that I can't get a good enough grip on this very short pin (bent into a half-diamond), so it slides off and just makes all quite difficult, though I did manage (I'm 85% sure anyway) to get three or maybe four pins up a couple times.

Well, today on a routine scavanging run, I picked up a few feet of brick strap (and there's plenty more where that came from) to make some 'real' picks.
I found this site: http://colt.projectgamma.com/lock/scrtlock.html
I'm wondering if the picks shown in the diagrams are actual size or not. I apologize for asking such a basic question, but I've been having a hard time finding accurate dimensions. I'd just like to make sure that I have the right tools before wasting a whole lot of time and getting dicouraged.

Don't get me wrong though, after I get a lock, much experimenting with shapes and sizes will follow :)

Here is one of the images from that site (the one that I'm most interested in). If there is a problem with embedding images just let me know, and I'll get rid of it....

If you can edit your post remove the picture, its in copyright violation and the site you linked to the same, steven hamptons books are all copyrighted and the person who runs that site has ripped the book and posted it there,

Look on this site for life size pictures and drawings of picks,

Dont worry ill pm a admin, its not you and not your fault, were just touchy on such things,

Stick to this site and youll be fine, theres templates and guides, the pics in that book of picks are actual size in the actual book but theres not enough detail on them to actually make any decent picks, i dont know about the copy you pointed to,

Those aren't very good models for picks. You would be much better off looking at some of the other homebrew picks on this site. There are tons of templates, many of them even have measurements so you can make them to scale. Good luck

Thanks for the tips guys... "Templates" why didn't I think of that?!

This should be fun, I'll let you know how it works out.
