interior button lock

Postby Krypos » 20 Jul 2006 1:56

hey, i have on my bathroom door a button type lock, all you do is turn the button towards the door jamb (SP?) and the door is locked, although it will lock if the door is open, it will not shut.

my question is if this can be picked or bypassed via the hole on the outside of the door. here are the pics (scaled down roughly 65% i think)
on the last pic, the inside of the door is on the left if that makes any diff.

Are you putting us on? :?

You can do it with almost anything that fits in the hole.

no, im not putting you on. ive just never tried. was wondering if was like the old coathanger trick or what. so just about anything that fits inside the hole? (if you are laughing, then shame you sickos!)

i was more or less wondering, what spot is it you have to press to open that? is it like an actual release button? or what??

all u have to do is get a small enough flathead screwdriver to fit in the lock, push it in till you get to an obstruction in the very center of it, dont go off to the side. then just twist it untill the screwdriver fits in teh groove and turn it to unlock it. i have those on my bedroom door

Those locks are really not meant for security. They're meant for privacy. They prevent someone from walking in on you while you're changing... or worse...

That's why it's common to find them on bathrooms and bedrooms. They are *intentionally* easy to bypass in case someone accidently locks the door and closes it on their way out. In fact, the brief instructions that come with them will generally tell you how to bypass them. Again, not intended for security. Just convenience.

im aware of the super secret agent bypass. i was kidding, because quite frankly, i wouldnt want to bust up my only debit card on a friggin button lock. however, i will gladly try it out with yours! please, just send it to me and i will try many methods- dont worry if charges occur, they are mandatory in the testing phase.
