jack knife set

Postby stargate » 20 Jul 2006 6:29

Im thinking of purchasing the jack knife set but I would like to known from someone who has purchased the steel one from Southord. Does the torque wrench be slot anywhere in the knive when its not in use or would i have to carry the wrench separately. Can i simply remove the wrench from with the knife set?

well I didn't purchase the steel one but i know that they're both designed the same way with the exception that one is made with a steel shell and the other one isnt. You do not need to carry the torque wrench seperately. there is a slot that allows the wrench to fit inside the knife.
I personally like it because its portable but also have some issues with holding it. Sometimes I prefer the feel of a regular lock picking set. I think various people went over this issue. You might want to take a look at those before purchasing this. Hope this helped.

New to picking?

Postby Wolfman » 20 Jul 2006 23:55

Stargate, are you new to lock picking?

If you are new to lock picking and want to learn I would suggest buying a small set from lockpickshop.com or something. The jackknife set has issues transfering the vibrations that occur while picking locks. But if you already know how to pick locks and your just looking for a small set to carry...

 Knock yourself out

sorry for the late reply..Been away doing an Investigators course, which is why Im learning lockpicking..The course doesnt entail lockpicking as such but If I have a warrant I can seize anything in a locked cabinet or shed. Most padlock I come across are Lockwoods in Aust.

Our Place of work wont allow us, just yet, to do a lock course because we the Police with us. Work says that the police and or if need be a locksmith would be called out, should the owner "happen know where they key is".

Ive been learning locking picking for about a month now from home made pics ideas (small hook & 1/2 Diamond rake) which I got off this site.
I have been using them on various size lockwood padlocks around the house, my home that is and I can honestly say I find the small hook to be the best and easiest pick to use. After several weeks of practice i can now open them in 10sec or less. My partner is impressed that I managed learn to feel and mimic the same action when picking. I even learned to backoff the torque wrench tension which has greatly improved my speed.
