I-Core American Lock

Postby Ryzom » 25 Jan 2004 18:31

mmk. I went and picked this up after the locksmith said this was the best anti pick lock they had (which i don't believe, I think the 44 dollar Abus diskus would be harder but whatever) And I realised it was I-Core, and I don't have any I-Core tools.

I was wondering if I NEED these tools to pick the lock, also is there a trick to this lock? I mean the keey has 2 divets and then a flat line between them... I can hear the pins click but it will never open any advice would be appreciated.

What is the model number?

And do you have any pictures?

I'd like to see 'the toughest lock to pick' lol.

And by any chance did you happen to get it for free or did you have to pay for it? ;)

Your local locksmith was probably right.

By special SFIC tools, I assume you mean the turning tools by G. Finch etc. THese are for picking control with more ease. Not necessary at all for general picking. But if you want to pick control, then thats a whole nother story.

If your american padlock is anything like the ones that I have come across it is not actually an I-core. Allthough it does look like an interchangeable core there is a rivit holding on a figure 8 shaped plate which, once the rivit is ground off, will fall out and expose a normal core.

Usually (in my experience) not a rivet. It's a screw. Get the lock open and look down the shacklehole.

Chucklz beat me too it. The easy way to tell the difference is this. If the top portion of the "figure 8" is the same color as the plug, then it is most likely an IC/otherwise it's most likely just a rekeyable cylinder that can be removed when the shackle is opened and the retaining screw removed.
*insert witty comment here*

ummm..... http://pattcorp.com/padlock/s5100.html

it is the one on the left, and I don't really know what yall started talking about but i know I have taken the actual lock out of the steel casing, and you can repin it all and what not, and it has those nice little holes at the bottom of the plug that the i-core tools fit into....

other than that i don't really know what yall are talking about.
