Serrated pins.... picking technique??

Postby Ryzom » 27 Jan 2004 0:11

Alright, this american lock I have has serrated pins mixxed in. with some regular ones.

I have 2 questions, one how, without removing all the pins and without looking at a label do you know if you are up against serrated.

2, what exactly is the technique when picking serrated pins? Do I release all the tension and press the serrated pins up until I think they are around the sheer line and let them drop? (ps, the bottom pins have serrated marks in them as well so reverse picking is a little difficult.

Is raking the only way?

Just to make sure: you found serrated TOP pins in an American lock?

That I haven't seen. But I haven't seen everything.

Yeah both top and bottom are serrated. I could try and take some pictures I have them in a little baggy, I was having trouble getting everything back in the same place.

It's a matter of luck. Even competent locksmiths can't pick most of the mushroom/serrated pin locks they encounter. Your best bet in this case is an electronic pick or snap gun. Reverse picking unlikely to work.

never does anyway, feh.
